A User Prioritisation Algorithm for Horizontal Handover in Dense WLANs

چکیده

Abstract This paper proposes an algorithm that enhances horizontal handover (HO) in dense wireless local area networks (WLANs), which is implemented a software-defined networking (SDWN)-based architecture. The considers the concept of user prioritisation, classifying WLAN stations (STAs) into two categories representing high and low priorities respectively, always attempts to guarantee best quality experience (QoE) priority users. architecture implements leverages flexibility, programmability, centralised nature SDWN efficiently manage HO process. Moreover, presents performance evaluation campaign demonstrates significant achievements against state-of-the-art solution terms provided QoE, throughput delay. Finally, we discuss importance considering prioritisation for s.

A Proactive Horizontal Handover Algorithm for WiFi-WiMax Interoperable Networks

(WNIC) in the WiFi AP. The BS can request real time video or Video on Demand (VoD) from a server allocated in the fixed network (to which the BS is connected). In order to model the movement of the MC, we build a diagram state to represent the areas in which MC can be and from what area to which one the MC passes. Classifying the areas in connected and disconnected ones we can discover the diff...

Handover Incentives for WLANs with Overlapping Coverage

It is well known that in IEEE 802.11 networks, the assignment of low-rate and high-rate users to the same access point significantly degrades the performance of the high-rate users. Our objective is to investigate the implications of the above performance degradation on the incentives for handover between 802.11 wireless local area networks with overlapping coverage. Our focus is on the incenti...

A simple prioritisation system to improve the electronic handover

The General Medical Council (GMC) states, "A well managed, thorough and organized handover is crucial for ensuring the quality and safety for patient care," and in their guidance on safe handover the British Medical Association (BMA) advised that "clinically unstable patients are known to the senior and covering clinicians; tasks should be prioritised; plans for further care are put in place; u...

An Opportunistic Scheduler for Dense Wlans

The demand for bandwidth by multimedia applications remains unabated. This is particular critical given the growing number of devices with WiFi capability, and the ubiquity of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). These trends have spurred researchers to develop low-cost and backward compatible solutions to increase the capacity of WLANs. One approach is to deploy additional Access Points (APs)...

Traffic Differentiation in Dense Collision-free WLANs

The ability to perform traffic differentiation is a promising feature of the current Medium Access Control (MAC) in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). The Enhaced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) MAC protocol for WLANs proposes up to four Access Categories (AC) that can be mapped to different traffic priorities. High priority ACs are allowed to transmit more often than low priority ACs, pro...
